If the columns have cracked or broken, they will need to be replaced using adjustable steel floor jacks.

So be on the lookout to know if your sagging floor is caused by moisture spills. New trends in home design can have a negative effect if a remodel doesn’t take the weight of the raw materials into account. Many older homes aren’t built to carry the load of solid granite countertops or stone-tiled floors and walls. Recreational items like a pool table or hot tub will also add significant weight to your floor system. These are all items that can put additional stress onto an already failing wood structure. If you replace floor joists, you could end up with a damaged subfloor. Floor joist repairs, when done incorrectly, can even damage the tiles, carpeting or hardwood floors above it. For all these reasons and more, it is essential that homeowners not attempt to fix a sagging floor crawl space themselves. Another consideration, regardless of the amount of slope, is whether there is structural damage in the home or only cosmetic damage. It’s the worry that the cause of the sloping is a structural problem or defect.
